Ilan Breil
Ilan joined The Collective in early 2010 with all of his clients in tow from Mosaic. In his short tenure, Ilan has had an active hand in packaging and selling several high-profile TV projects, some of which the Collective plans to produce along with its clients. In addition to managing traditional established writer/directors like Steven Conrad (The Weatherman” and “Pursuit of Happyness” and several TV show runners, Ilan also works with authors in the non-fiction arena like ex-CIA officer and former head of Counter Terrorism for the agency, John Kiriakou (author of “The Reluctant Spy”), and Pulitzer Prize winning, ABC NEWS journalist (Richard Esposito). Throughout his career he has managed a host of other personalities along with a myriad of up-and-coming television and feature writers in both the comedy and drama space.
Ilan’s specific forte has been that of a career launcher which has lead to having writers make The Black List and Variety’s Top Ten Writers to Watch. He continues to take pride in discovering young screenwriters like Cameron Fay (“UNNATURAL SELECTION”) and Alex Sabeti (“THE ART OF COOL” and “DERYNI RISING”). On the talent side, Ilan has helped identify up-and-comers such as signing HEROES’ series regular Masi Oka before the show launched. Ilan has successfully worked with Masi to establish him as a producer, and creator of his own intellectual property on several different projects in the Motion Picture and Television arenas. Ilan is attached to produce Disney’s action/spy comedy “B-Team” written by his clients Derek Guiley and David Schneiderman, along with a handful of other feature projects set up around town.
While at Mosaic for 5 years, he helped service and package A-list directors, talent and filmmakers. As well as transition high-end TV drama writers to pursue their own original content, such as Denzel Washington’s involvement in client, Virgil Williams’ pilot, Billy Stiles for Fox. Ilan helped sign, establish and package shows like “THE LIFE & TIMES OF TIM” at HBO which opened Mosaic to the animated television world which is in production on its 3rd Season where Ilan continues to serve as one of the shows producers. He assisted in developing projects with directors, like Conrad Vernon (“MONSTERS VS. ALIENS”) and writers like Jay Reiss with his award winning script THE ORANGES. Other writers he helped sign or work with were show runners like Ed Redlich, Kit Boss and Barbara Wall, to name a few.
After working at a talent agency, in creative development at a major TV studio and running development for a feature producer, Ilan segued into management in 1998. Ilan first became a manager at Principal Entertainment where he worked with Seth Rogen to develop many versions of his first draft of “SUPERBAD”. Ilan quickly established himself as a taste-maker early on and has helped launch the careers of show runners like Scott Rosenbaum, clients Monica Breen & Alison Schapker, who 10 years later have ran several shows and are currently developing a series with J.J. Abrams.. He not only discovered and launched Steve Conrad’s screenwriting career but also transitioned him into role of director for his first film “The Promotion”. Ilan continues to hone his skill-set as a manager, developer and producer here at The Collective in all areas of media.
